Bonnie Williams

My student years were full of art work, but after I joined the work force, I neglected my creative side. It never occured to me that one could earn a living from painting! Then in 1989 I took an oil workshop with Dalhart Windberg. Although I didn't immediately start to paint a lot, I began to think more about this thing called ART.

In 1992 I took an early retirement to pursue my desire to become an artist. Oil painting was my start in this direction, but over time, I began to experiment with watercolor, pen and ink, colored pencil, and then on to pastels! Pastels are an absolute joy to me. The combined nature of drawing and painting is wonderful. I love their immediacy; no waiting for paint to dry, no brushes to clean, just fun of the creative flow.

I really love painting rocks and tumbling streams of water, as well as the mountains, trees and vegetation of our western states, in particular. There is an abstract quality to these things which captures my imagination and appeals to me greatly. The timeless beauty of these objects in nature is what I try to convey to my viewers. The quiet colors and subtle nuances of the natural world is what I want to bring to life on my paper.

"Bonnie has recently won Second Place in the 2008 annual National Show for the Pastel Society of America held in New York."
